Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area located in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. Many people believe that it is an island to the west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel lived in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. Former dancers often turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel,, it was an urging by her drama teacher. The teacher encouraged her to take part in an audition in the school's production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the leading role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Her career spans twenty years, and she's been in over 60 productions that have screened on large screens as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was that of Rita (pictured below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor during the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
